12th International Conference on Middle English
CALL FOR PAPERS
The 12th International Conference on Middle English will be hosted by the English Language & Linguistics department at the University of Glasgow on 22-24 August 2022.
The plenary talks will be delivered by: Anita Auer (University of Lausanne), Jeremy J. Smith (University of Glasgow), and Elaine Treharne (Stanford University).
We welcome abstract submissions on topics related to any aspect of linguistic and literary research on Middle English (broadly conceived), textual criticism, manuscript studies, language change, language variation, and related topics.
We are planning three presentation formats*:
- Posters > This format is particularly suitable for ongoing projects, early career scholars, and postgraduate and doctoral students.
- Full papers > 30 minutes (20-minute talk + 10-minute discussion)
- Thematic workshops > 90 minutes or 180 minutes > contributions on a selected topic. We welcome a variety of formats and activities.
*No more than one individual and/or co-authored presentation per participant.

FOR POSTERS AND FULL PAPERS
Your abstract should be no longer than 300 words (excluding references), and outline your research question(s), approach, data and/or materials used, and projected conclusions.
FOR THEMATIC WORKSHOPS
Your abstract should be no longer than 300 words (excluding references), and outline the purpose of the workshop and the research questions addressed. In addition, you should include the titles of any envisaged presentations, but NOT the names of your presenters.
Workshops will be 90 minutes or 180 minutes.
Submissions will be subjected to a double-blind peer-review processes. Second call for papers with registration details will be posted in March. Notification of acceptance will be sent out in late April / early May.
